The PE and sport premium funding has had a significant impact on our pupils’ PE attainment, physical activity levels, and sport participation during the academic year 2024–2025. The funding has supported improvements in five key areas:
-
Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- The introduction of new sports equipment, including Pickleball, rugby balls, and basketballs, has increased pupil engagement in lessons and extracurricular clubs.
- The marking of seven dedicated Pickleball courts has introduced a new and inclusive sport, encouraging participation across year groups.
-
Raising the profile of PE and sport
- Updated and improved PE department displays and signage have enhanced the learning environment and made the Head, Heart, Hands assessment criteria more visible and accessible to students.
- Substantial improvements in the appearance and feel of the department have helped to raise the status of PE across the school.
-
Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE
- Online resources for non-specialist PE staff have helped build capacity by providing accessible training and lesson ideas, increasing staff confidence in delivering high-quality PE lessons.
-
Broader experience of a range of sports and activities
- The subsidised Year 5 outdoor education trip and the Stanley Head residential experience have allowed pupils to access adventurous and outdoor physical activities they might not otherwise experience. As well as swimming top up lessons and a swimming gala to allow children to be safe around water and to meet their age-related expectation.
-
Increased participation in competitive sport
- Coach travel funding to and from sports fixtures has enabled more students to attend inter-school competitions, improving access to competitive sport for a wider range of pupils.
Achieving sustainable outcomes
To ensure the improvements made with PE and sport premium funding are sustainable and benefit future pupils, we have focused on building capacity and long-term capability in the following ways:
- Staff Development: The use of online resources for non-specialist staff has enhanced teaching knowledge and confidence across the school, ensuring future cohorts will benefit from high-quality PE regardless of staff changes.
- Infrastructure Investment: The creation of seven Pickleball courts and the purchase of durable sports equipment provide long-lasting resources that will serve pupils for many years.
- Cultural Change: By investing in high-impact visual displays and embedding our Head, Heart, Hands assessment across the department, we have strengthened the identity and ethos of PE, promoting long-term engagement.
- Widening Access and Participation: Subsidised trips and funded transport have set a precedent for inclusive access to enrichment opportunities. This commitment will continue to influence school culture moving forward.
Through a combination of professional development, facility enhancement, and targeted access initiatives, our school is well-positioned to maintain and build upon the positive outcomes delivered through this year’s funding.
